Iron Lady's daughter finds space of her own

Evening Standard. 18 April 2000

Carol Thatcher, daughter of Baroness Thatcher, bought a loft conversion in Bankside Lofts on the South Bank by the new Tate Modern Gallery.

Prices there have risen rapidly - but Carol needed extra living space and wondered how it could be added to the terrace of her apartment.

The solution came from First Penthouse - a husband and wife team of two Swedish civil engineers based in London. Annika and Hakan Olsson design a prefabricated flat, which is factory built with interior layout specified by the client, and deliver the finished product to site on the back of a lorry.

Carol Thatcher sat down at the computer with First Penthouse, drew up her interior design and ensured the exterior perfectly matched the style of the development. When it arrives, on Bankside, it will be lifted into position and made ready for use within a day.
